BMW is actively testing their new flagship SUV offering. Labelled X7, this upcoming model has been caught on camera yet again, this time on a frozen lake in Lapland.
According to our sources, the X7 will share a significant chunk of its internals with Rolls Royce’s first ever SUV which is also under development. The former will ride on the CLAR architecture which made its debut in the latest-gen 7 Series. For the X7 the platform will be heavily strengthened to handle the added bulk.
Some of the suspension bits will be sourced from the X5 while both rear-wheel drive and xDrive AWD systems are going to be offered. In terms of engines, the X7 will get six- and eight-cylinder units as well as a plug-in hybrid derivative. The most expensive version, meanwhile, will be powered by an upgraded version of the 6-litre V12 which currently makes 544bhp and 750Nm of torque.
The X7 will be assembled at BMW’s Spartanburg factory in South Carolina, US where they plan on investing $1 billion until late 2016 to boost capacity. BMW is looking to take things to next level with this new model which will be significantly more luxurious and competent than the X5.
