Over the years BMW has been making cars that are fast and fun to drive and their SUVs were no less. A BMW official now claims that the new X6M is as quick as the old E92 M3 coupe at the Nurburgring beating the Range Rover SVR's newly set record.
Herbert Bayerl, project leader for the two M cars (X6M and X5M), told a publication that the X6M is as fast as the previous gen E92 M3 Coupe which clocked 8 minutes and 5 seconds in December 2007.
To put numbers into perspective, the Range Rover SVR with a supercharged 542.5bhp V8 engine managed a loop around the Nordschleife in 8 minutes and 14 seconds setting a record for SUVs. If the X6M is as quick as the E92 M3, then it would be faster than the SVR by about nine seconds.
"We have been travelling much faster in testing and have undercut the times of the Range Rover [SVR] several times. We do not need any special add-on parts to go faster," said Bayerl.
The X6M gets a 4.4-litre, TwinPower V8 engine producing 567bhp mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Range Rover SVR is an outcome of the company’s Special Operations team and a competitor to BMW’s M division and Mercedes’ AMG. BMW hasn’t come up with official numbers for the X6M around Nordschleife yet. Until then, watch this space.
