BMW has launched a new high-performance model of its controversially styled X6 here in the Indian market. Labelled X6 M, this new model has been developed by the German automaker’s mad M division and is priced at Rs 1.6 crore (ex-showroom).
Alongside the X6 M, BMW India has also launched the X5 M which gets a similar treatment as the former but comes across as a more practical proposition, thanks to a more spacious cabin and a higher roofline.
Coming back to the X6 M, this new model differentiates itself from the regular X6 with the help of large air intakes at the front, side gills with a model badge, signature M exterior mirrors in twin-stalk style and the quad tail pipes. BMW is also offering a rear spoiler for this sporty crossover.
Inside, there is no shortage of reminders to tell you that this an M car, thanks to the M-specific instrument cluster, M5-like leather steering wheel with aluminium gearshift paddles and M gearshift lever and the head-up display which, in addition to the standard system, also includes an M-specific display with gear indicator, rev band and shift lights.
The X6 M gets the same engine that also powers the X5 M, which means it’s the 4.4-litre, twin turbocharged V8 that produces 575bhp of power and 750Nm of torque. All that power allows the X6 M to sprint from 0-100kmph in a mere 4.2 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
While the X5 M competes with Mercedes ML/GL63 AMG, the X6 M is more of a Porsche Cayenne Turbo rival thanks to its relatively sportier appearance.
