BMW recently unveiled the ‘Black Fire’ edition of the X5 M which boasts of a black paint scheme. However, the recent spy shots indicate that the German manufacturer is testing the high performance derivate of the X5, which is speculated to be the next generation X5 M.
The X5 M carries identical silhouette as the standard X5, however the sporty SUV gets a wider body kit. The front bumper is styled to be aggressive and the rear bumper is fitted with an aluminium diffuser with quad exhaust tips. The side profile displays the wider rear tyre to offer more grip and the beefy drilled brake rotors as a part of the ‘M’ badge.
The new X5 M is supposedly powered by the same 4.4-litre V8 engine delivering 575bhp and 750Nm of torque from its predecessor. Power will be fed to all four wheels through an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox. Like its predecessor, the new car is expected to sprint from 0-100kmph in 4.2 seconds and is likely to have a top speed lock at 250kmph.
The new X5 M is expected to be unveiled early next year and will primarily go on sale in the international market. It is unlikely that the German manufacturer, BMW, will show any urgency to bring the X5 M to the Indian market. However, we can expect the car to land on Indian soil later next year. Once launched the BMW X5 M will rival against the Range Rover sport SVR, Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Mercedes GLE 63.
