BMW’s most potent SUV offering – the X5 M is now on sale in the Indian market. This high-performance beefed up version of the regular X5 has been priced at Rs 1.55 crore (ex-showroom) and competes with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes GL 63 AMG here in India.
Based on the regular X5, the X5 M boasts of all the M division goodies as well as the all-wheel drive capability of the former model. Alongside this new model, BMW India has also launched the X6 M which carries a coupe-like roof line.
Being an M car, the X5 M marks its arrival from a distance thanks to the aggressive looking front bumper, large air intakes, redesigned grille and quad tail pipes. The massive forged alloy wheels also do their bit in giving the X5 M extreme street credentials.
The cabin, meanwhile, is based on the regular X5 but comes laden with M-specific bits like the M leather steering wheel with aluminium gearshift paddles, aluminium interior trim strips and an M footrest for the driver. The X5 M also features M5 like steering wheel design and gear lever. As for the features, BMW is offering automatic tailgate, headlight washers, climate control, a hi-fi speaker system and Park Distance Control, head-up display, adaptive LED headlights and lots more.
The X5 M’s highlight, undoubtedly, is the 4.4-litre, twin turbocharged V8 engine that develops 575bhp of power and 750Nm of torque. This is the same engine that also powers the M5 and the M6 and comes paired with a super quick 8-speed automatic gearbox. Thanks to all that power and the M-specific all-wheel-drive system, the X5 M can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.2 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
The X5 M, alongside the X6 M, are now on sale in the Indian market. Both these vehicles cater to the high-performance SUV segment and compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz ML/GL63 AMG and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
