When BMW’s X6 first came out, it paved the way for a new segment altogether and went on to become quite a success on the sales chart. Now with the upcoming X4, BMW is looking to do more of the same and expand the segment.
The car has been spotted during its cold weather testing somewhere in Northern Europe, ahead of its world debut later in the year. Based on the same platform as the X3, the new X4 will be positioned below the X6 as the brand’s next Sports Activity Coupe – a term BMW uses for its sporty road-focused SUVs. This new model is said to be lower and wider than the more practical X3 despite sharing similar underpinnings. BMW certainly wants the X4 to looks sportier and more aggressive than the latter.
Under the hood, the X4 is expected to come with the same set of engines and drive-train options as the X3. Additionally, the car could also be offered in both rear and all-wheel-drive configurations. When launched, the X4 could go up against the recently introduced Porsche Macan in the premium compact SUV market.
