BMW has started work on a new generation version of the X4, as seen in the recent spy shots of the one of the prototypes. Now, what we have here are pictures of the controversially designed crossover with the M-Sport design pack.
The SAC (Sports Activity Coupe) has been spotted in Munich and the light camouflage covering the test car suggests it won’t be too long until official debut. Underneath, we will find the CLAR architecture, which is set to become the backbone of all BMW models from the 3-Series up. The new platform is expected to deliver sharper handling, while the 100kg weight saving set to be introduced by the architecture being one of the top assets behind the process.
Underneath the all-out M car which could be animated by a 500bhp version of the M3/M4 twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight six, there will be a X4 M40i featuring the new B58 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six. While the M-Sport pack will come as a standard for the X4 M40i, it will be available as an option for less potent variants.
