The updated BMW X1 is still a sometime away from its global unveiling, and it has been spotted on numerous occasions testing in Europe. This time around a source claims that the new X1 has revealed some details on the upcoming crossover from the German carmaker.
According to the source, the new X1 might be smaller than the outgoing model and will be launched in June 2016. The new car is expected to get rugged styling to break away from the small station wagon image it has been stuck with.
However, the source also adds that despite getting shorter, the car will be made with a long wheelbase for markets like China, Russia and the United States. It is this long wheelbase model that might get a third row of seat and a higher luggage area.
The X1 also gets the option of a petrol engine in other markets, but for India, we expect BMW to stick with the diesel only option. It has always been the case of more the merrier with the Indian market, but we don’t expect the X1 with a third row to be launched in India. However, the recently launched X5 has a third row and there is a possibility of this one making it here too.
