The BMW X1 in long wheelbase form has been caught on camera, ahead of its public debut at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show. Chinese car buyers tend to favour rear seat comfort over other attributes in a car. This explains the rising number of luxury carmakers coming up with long wheelbase version of their regular cars.
While the regular latest-gen X1 is 4,439mm long and features a wheelbase spanning 2,670 mm, this long wheelbase version is expected to be around 100mm longer. Engine options, meanwhile, would start with a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine with a front-wheel drive layout. The most expensive variant, on the other hand, will get a 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with around 257bhp of power. All engine options will come paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The X1 long-wheelbase will be available in China either as 18Li, 20Li or 25Li. Besides BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz are also preparing to showcase long wheelbase versions of their cars in Beijing.
