It seems like BMW has saved the best for the last, the German carmaker will launch the duo of the M3 sedan and the M4 on November 26 just before the year ends. The M3 and the M4 made their global debut at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show where the M3 returned in a sedan only guise while the coupe was named M4.
These two cars are identical under the skin, but the M3 Coupe was dissolved and so that gave birth to the name M4. Mechanically, the two cars are very similar. BMW’s 3.0-litre straight-six engine powers the rear-wheels of both cars producing a similar amount of power at 425bhp and 550Nm of torque. These cars get a six-speed manual gearbox as standard abroad, but in India we would rather get the seven-speed M-DCT dual-clutch transmission.
The new M3 and M4 get an electro-mechanical steering system with a Servotronic function to adjust the level of assistance depending on speed. The cars will get the three modes standard to M cars – Comfort, Sport and Sport +. BMW has extensively used carbonfibre not just on the body, but even the propeller shaft uses carbonfibre reinforced plastic claimed to reduce 40 per cent weight over the previous car's steel shaft.
The M3 and M4 both crack the ton in under 5 seconds and will hit an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. The M3 and the M4 will compete with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and the Audi RS5. We expect both cars to cost a little over Rs 1 crore.
