The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car was unveiled today at Deutsche Motoren by Mr. Praful Patel, Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. The German Ambassador to India, Mr. Thomas Matussek was present as the Guest of Honour.
The car is a road ready, four seater concept sports car with a mileage of 26.5kpl and CO² emission rating of 99 grams/kilometer. It is capable of achieving a top speed of 250 kmph with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/hr in 4.8 seconds. The car is powered by BMW’s ActiveHybrid technology and has been conceived as a plug-in hybrid. The centrally housed lithium-polymer rechargeable battery can be fully charged at a conventional power socket within two and half hours. The use of electrical energy alone permits zero-emissions motoring with a range of 50 km, while a 24ltr diesel tank extends the total action radius of the vehicle to up to 700 kms. Dr. Andreas Schaaf, President, BMW India said, “BMW Vision EfficientDynamics as an example of cutting-edge technology is simply a continuation of BMW EfficientDynamics development strategy.”
At the launch Mr. Patel said, “As the Indian automobile industry grows, it will eventually be challenged with the need for reduction of energy consumption for environment protection. BMW Vision EfficientDynamics illustrates a successful research and development strategy which holds tremendous potential for sustainable growth.”
BMW Vision EfficientDynamics has been presented in India for the first time and will be exhibited at the BMW Studio, Connaught Place, New Delhi till 24 May 2011.
