BMW has unveiled a special M5 Competition Edition. Dubbed the ‘ultimate’ version of the German automaker’s mid-size sedan, it is a limited edition 592bhp RWD monster which we believe the company has unveiled to bring the fight to the soon-to-be-launched Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
In BMW parlance, Competition means better than the best which in the larger scheme of things means this is a high performance version of a high performance car. It is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that pumps out 592bhp and a massive 700Nm of torque with power going to the rear wheels via an M dual clutch transmission. This gives you a 0-100kmph time of just 3.9 seconds putting it pretty much in supercar territory.
But it is not just the powerful engine that makes this sedan a storm on four wheels. It also gets an upgraded suspension, recalibrated steering and differential. There is also a lowered ride height and of course lots and lots of electronic wizardry from those boys in Munich to ensure you exit every corner sideways in a cloud of tyre smoke.
The cabin is standard M5 stuff but now trimmed out in full black with white inserts. Special touches include a B&O infotainment system, M5 badging, carbon fibre inserts and a plaque bearing the number of the car. BMW will produce 200 units of this special edition (100 in black and 100 in white) and has priced it at Rs 1.25 crore (142,696 USD).
