Earlier this month, Mercedes-Benz introduced its S600 S Guard for all-round protection from armed violence. Now, another German luxury automaker has announced a new armoured vehicle. The automaker in question is BMW and the vehicle it has unveiled is the new X5 Security Plus.
Set to make its debut later this month at the Moscow International Motor Show, the new X5 Security Plus is based on the regular X5 xDrive50i variant. For starters, the vehicle has bulletproof armour with BMW offering specially designed safety glass and a thoroughly reinforced body structure.
The X5 Security Plus has a ‘VR6’ ballistic protection rating on the vehicle resistance chart, which means the SUV should have no problem tackling deep blows from explosives including hand grenades and handgun bullets.
Expectedly, the X5 Security Plus will weigh a lot more than the regular X5 although BMW has not yet released the official numbers. The Security Plus version is expected to be made alongside the regular X5 range at BMW’s Spartanburg facility in South Carolina, USA.
