BMW has tricked the world in a smart way and almost no one saw this coming. The BMW Active Tourer which was presumed to be the new 1 Series GT has been spied without any camouflage. To everyone’s surprise, the car has a 2 Series badging.
The ‘225i’ emblem worn by the car can be clearly seen in the pictures taken by photographers at WCF. Reporters say that the car was being videographed for BMW’s official photoshoot. This is the first time the BMW Concept Active Tourer has been spied completely undisguised.
According to reports this 2 Series Active Tourer will be powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engines, both in petrol as well as diesel variants. Power outputs for the petrol versions will range from 122bhp to 224bhp, while for the diesel models, from 82bhp to 184bhp. This vehicle will be the first one from BMW to have a front-wheel-drive transmission.
BMW had showcased the concept car, Active Tourer at the Paris Motor Show in September last year. The production version of this vehicle, the 2 Series Active Tourer is expected to be launched next year. Most probably BMW might display it at the Geneva Motor Show scheduled in March 2014. Apart from this five-seat layout, the car might also be made available as a seven-seater later. Developing car markets like India can expect this car to enjoy a good demand due to the reduced costs with the implementation of front-wheel-drive.
