BMW Malaysia, yesterday, announced that the 3 Series GT will be the next model to be locally assembled at the company’s plant in Kulim. The announcement was made at the company’s media briefing for its sales performance in 2013. The 328i GT was unveiled in Malaysia, in June, last year, and production is set to begin by mid-2014. The car hasn’t been launched there yet and prices will be announced later in the year.
While the Indian market only gets the 320d variant, the Malaysian market has been spoilt for choice with a wider range of variants to choose from. Their 3 Series GT lineup will comprise of 328i, 335i, 320i, 320d and the 318d. BMW says that the introduction of this model is in line with its strategy to offer a diverse range of products to the Malaysian consumers.
Besides the 3 Series GT, the Kulim facility also assembles 13 other models for both BMW and Mini in the Malaysian market. 2013 saw BMW group’s sales increase by 14 per cent as compared to 2012. The 3 Series is the company’s best-selling product followed by the 5 Series and the X3. Worldwide sales figure of the German manufacturer also increased by 6.4 per cent in 2013.
Unveiled globally at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the 3 Series GT was launched in India at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and is locally assembled at BMW’s assembly plant in Chennai. It is priced at Rs 42.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the lone 320d GT Luxury Line variant available here.
