- The eighth-gen 5 Series debuted in May 2023
- Will mark the debut of the 5 Series LWB in India
BMW raised the curtains on the eighth generation 5 Series back in May 2023. Now, more than a year later, the automaker is officially set to launch this iteration of the brand’s sedan in the country on 24 July.
Set to arrive in the Long Wheelbase (LWB) form, the new 5 Series will directly take on its longtime rival, the E-Class (also available as an LWB in India). Similar to the said competition, this will also be the second market, after China, to receive the 5 Series LWB. Notably, the EV derivative of the new 5 Series, called the i5, was launched in India in April 2024.
Exterior highlights of the 2024 BMW 5 Series include the signature kidney grille design, new headlamps with twin C-shaped LED DRLs, chunky front bumper with silver inserts, new alloy wheels, illuminated grille, new wraparound two-piece LED taillights, and a ‘5’ badge on the C-pillar.
The inside of the new-gen 5 Series will come equipped with a 14.9-inch freestanding touchscreen system, 12.3-inch fully digital driver’s console, reclining rear seats, four-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, and a foldable 31.1-inch display for the second-row occupants.
Under the hood, the upcoming 5 Series is expected to source power from 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engines paired with a mild-hybrid system. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be available across the range.
