BMW India showcased one of its best products it has created till now, the i8 at the FAME India Eco Drive that was held today at New Delhi to celebrate the World Environment Day.
The BMW i8 was displayed among 46 hybrid and electric vehicles present at the rally. The car has won the World Green Car award at the World Car Awards 2015. The BMW i8 is a plugin hybrid vehicle which means that it is powered by two engines. The rear wheels get a 1.5-litre three cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine producing 213bhp and 320Nm of torque. Power is transmitted via a six-speed automatic gearbox. The front wheels are connected to an electric motor via a two-stage AT box. This motor produces the equivalent of 131bhp and is mated to a 5kWh lithium-ion battery. This combination takes the total output to 362bhp and 570Nm of torque allowing the i8 to do 0-100kmph in 4.4 seconds. This setup also gives the i8 a very impressive 39.9kmpl (under European test conditions).
