BMW has begun the roll out of the locally assembled 7 Series luxury sedan from its plant near Chennai. The locally assembled models are the 730Ld in the Design Pure Excellence and M Sport variants and have been priced at Rs 1.11 crore and 1.19 crore (Ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.
The car was launched at the 2016 Auto Expo and was the showstopper for the German automaker at it stall. The locally assembled models incorporate a huge number of features both internally and externally. Some of the noticeable elements include LED lamps, gesture control for the touchscreen system and of course BMW’s latest design philosophy. In addition to these locally assembled models, BMW also sells in the 7 Series in two CBU variant - the 750Li and base 730Ld which is available for customisation.
India is one of the markets where all big players in the luxury segment locally assemble at least one variant of their flagship car in a bid to keep the pricing competitive. Audi locally assembles certain variants of the A8L while Jaguar has CKD operations for all variants of the XJL. Mercedes-Benz too, since the launch of the current S-Class, expanded the number of models put together at its Chakan plant. It began operations with the S500, then the S350 and now even assembles the S500 Maybach locally.
