The BMW 3 Series GT was launched at the recently concluded Auto Expo. With deliveries expected to start in March, the company has now produced the first locally made car from its plant at Mahindra World City in Singaperumal Koil, Chennai. Priced for Rs 42.75 lakh (all India ex-showroom), the deliveries of the 3 Series GT have started.
The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, with a coupe-style roofline and a flowing rear end with large load aperture, has dimensions greater than the standard sedan. The overall length is 200mm more, making the wheelbase longer by 110mm. The height has also been increased by 81mm in comparison to the 3 Series sedan. The GT boasts of larger headlights, a larger grille, frameless side windows and a rear spoiler that is automatically deployed when the car travels at 110 kmph and retracted at speeds below 70 kmph.
The 3 Series GT, available in India only as the 320d variant, is powered by the 2.0-litre straight-six engine that churns out 184bhp and 380Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox sourced from ZF. The power is sent to the rear wheels.
BMW had revealed its plans of launching the car in India this year. The carmaker also had confirmed that the vehicle will be assembled at their Chennai plant. BMW fans and enthusiasts can now buy the 3 Series GT as it reaches the dealerships.
