- Strong demand for petrol cars
German luxury car manufacturer BMW has posted its best ever half-yearly sales in India with 13 per cent growth as compared to the same period in 2017. The company has reportedly sold 4,890 BMW units (up by 12 per cent) in the first six months of 2018 along with 281 units of Mini (up by 30 per cent).
The Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment has been a considerable contributor to the overall sales. The biggest contributor to the SAV sales has been the BMW X3, which has witnessed a strong 60 per cent growth over the same period last year. Interestingly, the petrol variant has also witnessed a massive 92 per cent growth in sales over last year. Due to strong demand for petrol cars, the company has recently introduced the Euro VI conforming petrol engines in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Pawah, President - BMW Group India, said, "Our strategy of focusing on introducing new and innovative product segments in the Indian luxury car market has started showing results. The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo and the BMW X3 have already exceeded our expectations and we see remarkable sales contributions coming from both in the future. Also, introduction of Euro 6 petrol engines in our product portfolio has played an important role in our strategy. We understand the changing aspirations of our customers and will continue to introduce innovative products and services that will excite them and spread sheer driving pleasure."
