BMW aficionados have always wanted a supercar from their favourite carmaker. The German carmaker has now hinted at a possibility of this happening very soon, in short, they might be developing a junior supercar.
BMW M performance division product boss Carsten Pries said, “We have to let the i brand settle down first. It is still very new to the market and the customer needs to be given some time to understand its proposition. Then, maybe, we can look at doing something.”
These are still early days to guess the probable launch date of the sports car, but there is a high possibility that this car might be born of the company’s association with Toyota. While BMW and Toyota get to use their respective brands on the joint sports car platform there aren’t many details on the powertrains.
However, we aren’t sure if that might be the supercar Pries has hinted at and they might be working on a proper supercar. If BMW did make a supercar, it would not be an upgraded i8 but instead a true M performance car that uses technologies from the i8 added Pries.
It seems like BMW is bracing to turn the heat on the competition. BMW has more of a sporty image in comparison to its German rivals – Audi and Mercedes which might work in favour of them.
