BMW launched its premium SUV – the new X5 in May, now there are rumours that the company will launch its mid-size luxury SUV, the X3, in August. The new X3 was revealed worldwide in February and now gets minor cosmetic upgrades and some changes to the interiors.
The X3 gets a marginal makeover, but the grille has been completely redesigned. The headlights now come in contact with the grille and the angular bumpers at the front and rear give the SUV a more aggressive and angular look. The ORVMs now get integrated turn signals and BMW also offers full LED headlights which might be dropped from the list for India.
The interior gets more premium with chrome accents, coverable cup holders and new panelling. The HVAC display is completely new and the optional navigation system has been replaced by a new re-engineered unit.
Mechanically the X3 will use the same TwinPower 2.0-litre diesel engine which has been tuned to offer more power and efficiency and will be mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. The engine now puts out 187bhp and 400Nm of torque in the xDrive models and 147bhp and 360Nm of torque in the sDrive. BMW may only offer it in a single engine option and we are most likely to get the X3 in the more powerful iteration with xDrive.
BMW has lost its crown of being the best-selling luxury brand in India. However, the German luxury carmaker is planning a comeback; the company will be launching about nine models this year, of which, the X3 will be one.
