The BMW 2 Series may be still new, and already has a M powered version for road and track assault. But, can there be more from the M235i that was reserved for the best? With BMW anything’s possible and the amount of power is never too much.
According to a report, the German car maker is working on an uprated version of the six-cylinder 3.0-litre N55 engine. It is rumoured that BMW is currently testing M2 Coupe prototypes with this tweaked engine.
This engine codenamed N55 N55B30T0 engine is the same unit that powers the 2 Series range-topper the M235i Racing. It seems that BMW engineers are working to extract 374bhp from the motor that currently produces 321bhp. The report also reads that the Munich-based company is testing the engine with a manual and an automatic gearbox. It is also mentioned that the car may hit the market by 2016.
There are no indications of the BMW 2 Series hitting the Indian market soon, as the 1 Series is still on sale and it would be a task to price it right. We believe they should bring it here, even if it has to be at the cost of discontinuing the 1 Series which failed to excite the Indian luxury car buyer.
