It seems like the BMW M2 might make its official debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. In an interview with a publication, the head of product development at BMW’s M division Carsten Priest has hinted at this possibility.
The M2 prototype has been spotted testing very often and our last report mentions that the car was seen more closer to its production ready form. If this rumour were to be true then this is quite a brisk development as the testers were spotted very recently.
In fact, Priest had said that usually it "tends to be a year delay between the base model and the M car."
There is still ambiguity over the engine the new M2 might be using as a few reports suggest that BMW is also developing a new four-cylinder engine for its M range. But we can expect the turbocharged 3.0-litre, straight-six engine, to be plonked in the M2 which might put out up to 374bhp. It seems like it might get only a manual gearbox as indicated by Priest.
The 2 Series has won lot of accolades for its handling already and who knows this might turn out to be the most fun BMW M car in modern times. We are unsure if the M2 will be launched in India, but we wish they do.
