There were reports earlier that the BMW M2 might make its world debut at the North American International Auto Show. However, it seems like the wait may be longer as according to fresh rumours, the car could be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015 instead.
Mystery still surrounds the specifications, but expect the turbocharged 3.0-litre, straight-six engine, to be plonked into the M2 that will churn out 374bhp. Company officials had earlier indicated that it will be only available with a manual gearbox, but we expect it to also get an automatic gearbox.
The standard 2 Series is a hoot when it comes to handling and the fun quotient might just go up with the M division’s version of it. This is in many ways considered to be the spiritual successor to the now defunct M3 coupe.
We are not sure if BMW will launch this machine in India if it comes only with a manual transmission. However, with changing times and competition there is a strong possibility it might be offered. As for now, the Bavarian carmaker is launching the 2014 M3 sedan and the M4 coupe on November 26.
