Following the reveal of the M4 CS at the Shanghai Motor Show this year, all eyes are now trained upon its smaller sibling, the M2, which is next in line to get the CS moniker. The hardcore version of the M2 follows in the wake of a minor cosmetic update to the entire 2 Series lineup. Now, the BMW M2 CS has been spotted by our spy photographers attacking the Green Hell.
The biggest news for the M2 CS comes under the hood. The N55 3.0-litre will be replaced by a more powerful S55 engine scrounged from the M3/M4. The power output is expected to cross the 400 horsepower mark and thanks to a little bit of weight loss, the M2 CS looks to be a promising hooligan. To handle the surge in power, expect the M2 CS to sport a bigger set of brakes, stiffer suspension, stickier tyres and a better aero.
Just like the M4 CS, the M2 will also get a few subtle tweaks in the CS guise. The cladded fascia on the test mule hints at an aggressive bumper underneath. The lighting signature carries sharper LED motif both fore and aft. The car is riding on sportier M-Sport alloy wheels. Expect special body colours upon the reveal similar to the M4 CS. On the inside, expect the CS to get Alcantara-wrapped upholstery, M-Sport seats and steering wheel along with a few other nip and tucks as well.
BMW is expected to reveal the M2 CS later this year with sales commencing sometime in 2018. The Frankfurt Motor Show is the best bet to see the hardcore M2 CS in all its glory. The CS moniker is here to stay, says the Bavarian carmaker. After the M4 and M2, we expect to see more M Coupes wearing the CS insignia in the coming years.
