BMW has finally listed the M2 on their official Indian website. The updated M2 Competition was introduced in April replacing the older M2 Coupe. The Bavarian carmaker might be considering an official launch of the baby M in country soon. The M2 will make its entry into BMW’s M Division in India.
As a part of the update, the M2 Competition replaced its N55B30 engine with a new power plant based on the power unit from its older sibling, the M3/M4. The 3.0-litre straight-six turbocharged unit now produces 404bhp and 550Nm. That’s almost 40bhp and 85Nm more than the previous model. It can be had with either a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The two-door can spring from 0-100kmph in just 4.2 seconds (4.4 seconds for the manual gearbox) and onto a top speed of 250kmph (which can be increased to 280kmph with the M Driver’s Package).
The new engine redlines at 7,600rpm owing to the new forged crankshaft and cylinder liners. The dramatic acoustic comes from the two electrically controlled flaps on the sports exhaust. Moreover, the M2 comes with exciting “Drift Mode”. Braking duties are done by 15.7-inch front discs with six-piston callipers and 14.9-inch rear discs and four-piston callipers. The wheels are 19-inch forged alloys wrapped in 245/35 section performance tyres.
BMW updated the M2 with a new paint scheme – Hockenheim Silver – and it gets a Kidney grille finished in gloss black. On the inside, the M Sport bucket seats are present as standard. The two M Buttons on the steering wheel can set up the individual setting for the drivers with much ease.
When it is launched in India, the BMW M2 Competition would be a direct rival to the likes of Mercedes-AMG CLA45, Porsche 718 Cayman, Audi TT and Jaguar F-Type V6 Coupe. Prices should be around Rs 80 lakhs (ex-showroom).
