BMW launched the petrol variants of its SUVs – the X3 and X5 in India. Launched in the ‘xLine’ variant of the X3 and the ‘Design Pure Experience’ variant of the X5, they are priced at Rs 54.90 lakh and Rs 73.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.
The petrol engine for the X3 xDrive28i is a 2.0-litre straight-four pot twin turbo unit. The power outputs are 242bhp and 350Nm of max torque between 1,250 – 4,800rpm. The engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission.
The X5 xDrive35i, on the other hand, is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six N55 turbocharged engine which produces 297bhp of power and a maximum torque of 400Nm between 1,200 – 5,000rpm. This engine is mated to new eight-speed Sport Steptronic automatic transmission.
Both the cars comes with BMW’s all-wheel-drive system called the xDrive and can accelerate from 0 -100 kmph in around 6.5seconds. All the BMW’s Efficient Dynamic features come as standard in both the cars like the dynamic stability control (DSC) auto start-stop, Eco Pro driving mode, brake-energy regeneration, intelligent lightweight construction, electronic power steering, 50:50 weight distribution and many other innovative technologies.
On the inside, the iDrive is integrated into the centre-mounted 8.8-inch infotainment system of the X3, with a high-definition colour display, and a rear view camera. The X5 being the bigger sibling gets a BMW Navigation system professional with 3D maps with integrated GPS, iDrive Touch with handwriting recognition and touch screen, high-end surround sound system from Harman Kardon, and a rear-view camera as well.
The X3 competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLC which already comes with an option of a petrol engine. The X5 competes with the Mercedes-Benz GLE.
Both the SUVs are now available with both petrol and diesel engine in India. They will be locally produced at BMW Plant in Chennai and is available for sale across the country.
