BMW has launched its new 5-Series starting with the 535i, 530d, 523i and 525d.The 5-Series range begins at Rs 38.9 lakhs (ex-showroom). The new 5-Series is bigger and heavier than the outgoing 5-Series model.
The new 5-Series sports a 7-Series look alike front grille, however the profile is more like the 3-Series. The new monocoque chassis sports double wishbone with cast-aluminium control arms at its front and Integral-V at its rear. This sedan will even feature a 8-speed transmission for the first time.
The 535i churns out 305bhp which is more the Mercerdes-Benz E-Class which produces about 272bhp of power. Â Since, the new 5-Series has a larger chassis, there is more space for the rear passengers. Â Even the interiors design theme is similar to the 7. The Munich automaker based in Chennai seems to be confident of the 5-Series and the company will produce 4000units a year. The CKD models have 10% local content. Will the 5-Series overthrow the E-Class? Only time will answer that.
