- BMW will showcase the pure-electric iX3 in concept guise at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show
- The electric crossover will reinvent the iconic ‘Kidney grille’ from the Bavarian carmaker.
- The electric X3 is BMW’s take on the Jaguar I-Pace apart from the upcoming Audi E-Tron and Mercedes-Benz EQC.
We know that BMW is preparing an all-electric X3 for quite some time now. The test mule of the electrified crossover has been spotted doing rounds on multiple occasions already. Now, BMW has teased a short video of the upcoming iX3 Concept ahead of its premiere at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show.
In the small teaser, however, the carmaker has only previewed a new grille design for the concept. It is similar to the one seen on the i Vision Dynamics Concept from last year albeit with blacked out internals. This grille will be the new signature for all future BMW Concepts but it won’t make it to the production model of the iX3. No other information on the zero-emission X3 is available at the moment.
The Concept from the Beijing stage will serve as the first preview of the production-ready iX3. The electric X3 is expected to debut later this year or in 2019. The Bavarian carmaker seems to be betting big on its electric portfolio, given that it has trademarked all the monikers from iX1 to iX9. By the middle of the next decade, BMW plans to have 25 electrified models on the road. It will be spearheaded by the iX3 and will be joined by the i4 which will be the production version of the i Vision Dynamics Concept.
When the new iX3 takes to the streets, it will face rivalry from the likes of Tesla Model X, Jaguar I-Pace apart from the upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQC and Audi E-Tron. It appears that the upcoming competition in electric crossover segment will be sensational.
