BMW is still to launch 10 vehicles for the Indian market this year. The manufacturer had planned 15 products for 2015, out of which five have been launched.
The pending launches will include mostly facelifted versions of existing cars in India. We can expect the 3 Series facelift to be launched soon. Apart from the regular revised versions, the German manufacturer for the first time, will also bring in their performance cars to India like the X5M and X6M.
BMW also plans to increase the amount of localisation in their cars under the 'Make-in-India' campaign. At present, the locally manufactured cars have about 50 per cent localisation.
They will also employ the locally assembled engines for the cars and SUVs from their Indian portfolio. The Force Motors plant in Chennai will be the first independent facility outside of the BMW group to assemble and test these new powerplants for BMW India. We can expect the 1,3,5,7 series and even the X range of vehicles from BMW to employ the engines manufactured at their Chennai plant.
