BMW India first revealed the new X3 earlier this year at the 2018 Auto Expo. Now, the German carmaker has announced that it will officially launch the luxury SUV on 19 April across the country.
The X3 is now in its third generation and makes use of a new platform while retaining its unmistakable styling of a mid-size crossover. Speaking of design, the car’s appearance is more evolutionary than revolutionary with subtle upgrades. The signature kidney grille, for example, is now bigger while the roofline is a tad higher. The tail lights are more angular and wrap-around with new detailing. On the other hand, the X3 benefits from a newer platform, thereby shedding 55 kilograms of weight. Dimension wise, the new X3 measures 4.7 metres in length, with a wheelbase of 2.8 metres.
Inside, the most prominent update is the new floating display for the infotainment system which has now become wider and bigger. The boot space has also been enlarged for more practicality. Engine wise, we expect the new X3 to come with a 2-litre diesel and possibly a 2-litre petrol engine, both paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Prices for the new X3 will remain at par with the current generation, so expect a price tag between Rs 50 to 60 lakhs. The car will eventually compete against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5 and the recently introduced new Volvo XC60.
