BMW India will spend Rs 130 crore in the current financial year to improve its overall operations. Some of the investment will also go into the two-wheeler and finance business.
With this investment, BMW will have pumped in a total of Rs 1250 crore in its India operations since its debut. The German manufacturer is looking to expand its dealership network in the country from 41 dealerships currently to 50 by 2018.
BMW plans to strengthen its product portfolio with the launch of the new 5-Series which will happen on June 29. The local assembly of this new luxury sedan already began in its Chennai plant earlier this month. Next year, the German automaker will bridge the gap between the 5 and 7 Series with the launch of the 6 GT. This new car is expected to create a new segment for the company and will also help it gain additional sales.
Its two-wheeler division, BMW Motorrad, has recently started ringing in sales in the country. With four operational showrooms, BMW has already started delivering bikes to the customers. However, the volume bike, the G310R has still not been launched in India, due to which the company would lose out on market share to rivals.
