BMW will begin assembly of its flagship model, the 7-Series, at its Chennai plant next year. This was confirmed by Phillip Von Sahr, president of BMW India. He added that the 1-Series will be launched in India next year and its local assembly will commence near the end of next year. BMW currently produces the 3-Series, 5-Series, X1 and the X3 at the Chennai facility.
During the unveiling of the facelifted X6, BMW also launched Deutsche Motoren, its biggest dealership in the country. The facility is spread out over 13,000sqft and has a showroom, service centre, spare parts shop and a business division.
It has been designed using the German automaker's global showroom design philosophy and has the capacity to display 13 cars at the same time. The showroom has 92 service bays and can attend to around 350 cars a day. The dealership is located on the Mathura Road in Faridabad.
It is almost certain that BMW is launching the 1-Series to rival the upcoming A-Class from Mercedes-Benz. Both cars are in the sub-Rs 25 lakh category.
