It’s the season of special edition versions in the entry-level premium car market and BMW India is the latest automaker to introduce a limited edition model for the Indian customers. The company has reportedly launched the limited-run 1 Series M Performance Edition. Based on the regular 1 Series hatchback, production for this new version is limited to just 111 units.
The 1 Series M Performance Edition is equipped with an assortment of M Performance parts including a sportier looking front and rear bumper. The car also gets new side skirts, allow wheels and racy body strips. According to Indian Autos Blog, the M Performance Edition carries a premium of around Rs 2.45 lakh over the regular 1 Series.
The M Performance Edition is based on the top-spec 1 Series 118d diesel variant, which means it gets the same 2-litre, four-cylinder engine producing 143bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. The car gets an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 20.58 kmpl.
Not long ago, Mercedes-Benz India launched limited edition models of the A-Class and the B-Class in ‘Edition 1’ guises. Featuring quite a few mechanical changes besides the usual cosmetic updates, both these cars are currently on sale in the market. Changes to the 1 Series M Performance Edition, on the other hand, are limited to cosmetic upgrades although that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The latter, in fact, makes a lot of sense for those who have always liked the 1 Series for its dynamic abilities but think it could do with a racier design.
