It is an open secret that the majority of premium carmakers have had their focus set on the entry-level luxury segment in India. In the recent past, we have seen a variety of premium hatchbacks and mid-size crossovers invading the entry-level luxury segment.
However, it is not to say that the manufacturers have shied away from the premium end of market. BMW, for one, is expected to launch its new 7 Series ActiveHybrid, to capture the untapped luxury hybrid segment of India. According to Motoring World, BMW India will launch the hybrid version of its flagship sedan – the 7 Series, in June this year.
The ActiveHybrid system combines the vehicle’s V8 petrol engine, an 8-speed auto gearbox and an electric motor. BMW says the 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 engine puts out 460bhp of power with the electric motor providing over 20 additional horses. Using both its power source, the 7 Series ActiveHybrid can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in just 4.9 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 250 kmph. Being a hybrid, we can expect the vehicle to be somewhat fuel efficient as well.
Going by the report, the 7 Series ActiveHybrid could be priced in the region of Rs 1.5 to Rs 1.8 crore, ex-showroom Delhi. At that price tag, the car is more than likely to be positioned below the 760Li with the fire breathing V12 engine.
