BMW will launch their latest hybrid car, the i8, in India tomorrow. The i8 will be the first hybrid supercar in the country and is expected to start an all-new segment in our country.
The BMW i8 gets a futuristic design philosophy and alluring looks that have created a lot of craze amongst BMW fans. The vehicle was sold out for a year after its official unveiling and due to the acute demand it also exceeded its initial production run. It was first sold in Europe then followed by its availability across different countries.
The supercar is powered by a three-cylinder 1.5-litre TwinPower turbocharged engine synchronised to an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, which in combination churns out 360bhp of power. The car can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.4seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. BMW claims that they have improved the performance and fuel efficiency of the carbon fibre car while keeping a tab on the CO2 emission levels, keeping them as low as 49 gm/km.
The BMW i8 has found a great following all over the world and fans and enthusiasts are looking forward to the official launch. The new plug-in hybrid will also pave the way for another hybrid and its younger sibling, the i3, which will be launched sometime later this year.
