The BMW i8 has been spotted testing on the roads of Beijing in China. The spy shots that were posted on carnewschina.com also show the car being charged at stations believed to be in the sparsely populated north-western suburbs of the same city. The BMW i8 was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show last month and is the second I badged vehicle from the German automaker.
The ‘most progressive sports car’ as mentioned by BMW which is ‘ready to revolutionalise its vehicle class’ has been eagerly awaited by the Chinese car buyers. The aerodynamics of this car scream out about its immaculate detail and its prowess. As reports suggest, the BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor churning out combined power of about 357hp and 570nm of torque. 0-100kmph is supposed to be well under 4.9-seconds. The top speed is limited to about 250kmph.
It is anticipated that the Chinese car market might get this car only in the first half of 2014 as it is expected to first debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November this year. The Chinese buyers surely are ready to pay extra for a high tech car with sporty credentials and a BMW-badge.
