BMW's latest hybrid sportscar, the i8, will be launched in India on February 18 and it has been already spotted in Chennai. The new plug-in hybrid has been creating a furore wherever it has been going and we expect it to create a huge excitement when it is introduced to the Indian market this month.
The BMW i8 is powered by a three-cylinder 1.5-litre TwinPower turbocharged engine synchronised to an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, which in combination churns out 360bhp of power. The car can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.4seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. BMW claims that they have improved the performance and fuel efficiency of the carbon fibre car while keeping a tab on the CO2 emission levels, keeping them as low as 49 gm/km.
The i8, with its futuristic design philosophy and alluring looks, was sold out for a year after its official unveiling. It reached the European dealerships first and then was made available in different car markets worldwide. Such was the strong demand of the car that it already surpassed the initial production run that the manufacturer had planned then. The plug-in hybrid supercar will finally come to India this month when the price of the car will be announced.
Stay tuned to this space as we will give you all the details then.
