BMW has announced that it has already got a year’s worth of orders for its new i8 sports car just two months after its official unveiling at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is the second car from the German automaker’s recently commissioned ‘I’ range after the i3 hatchback.
The company has not specified how many i8s they can produce annually and more importantly how many orders they have got for the i8 but they did however, specify that there are 10,000 bookings for the i3 hatchback which went on sale in Europe last month.
The BMW i8 is the company’s first modern hybrid sportscar and is a successor to the 8 Series Sedan that sold in the middle of the 1990s. It is almost certain that the i3 and i8 are the first of the future BMW line-up and we can expect to see many more body styles with the ‘I’ moniker over the next few years.
