The BMW i8, unarguably, is truly a game changer in the sports car world. With its space-age looks and a powerful yet efficient hybrid drive-train, the two-door sports car has helped redefine performance hybrid vehicles. It is hardly surprising, then that the i8 has just been crowned UK Car of the Year for 2015.
According to BMW, the UK has become Europe’s biggest market for i8 sales with 450 bookings so far. There is currently a nine month waiting list for the car. The i3 family vehicle, on the other hand, reportedly is also a sales success with the 1,860 cars sold in the UK since its November 2013 launch.
Commenting on the i8, Craig Thomas, UK Car of the Year judge said, “Just as the i3 helped redefine electric vehicles, so the i8 is helping to redefine what a sports car is, in a world attempting to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The pairing of a three-cylinder engine and electric motor gives mind-boggling headline economy and emissions figures, while it makes few compromises in the driving department.”
