It seems there has been trouble in the BMW paradise. Their plug-in hybrid performance vehicle, the i8, has come under some criticism, leading to a recall.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, BMW North America has notified them that 223 units of the i8 as a bolt that attaches a ground cable may not have been installed correctly during the vehicle's assembly. This could result in a fuel leak. Even an accidental fuel leak along with a spark, will be enough to torch the vehicle and its surroundings.
BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain model year 2014 i8 vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2014, to September 16, 2014 and owners will be duly notified.
The BMW i8 has been praised by the auto industry for being a departure from the norm and has been touted as a forward thinking car on the road today. The extensive use of carbon-fibre in its construction has also made it a lightweight vehicle and it doesn’t hurt that car is a showstopper on its own. This recall is hopefully, just an initial hiccup in its journey to bring in the future.
