At the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the German automaker BMW, stole limelight with the special i8 Protonic Red Edition. True to its name, the sporty machine shall be offered exclusively in Protonic Red Body color. Moreover, to give it a special edition feel it also comes with Frozen Grey metallic accents. BMW does not plan on introducing the new model in the Indian market, as for the UK market, the special edition would be up on sale from September at a price of around £112,535 (Rs 1.06 crore).
The BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition continues to be powered by 1.5-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that generates about 228bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. What classifies the vehicle a cut above the rest is the presence of electric motor that generates about 129bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Combined, the vehicle generates about 357bhp of power and 570Nm of torque. The front wheel is powered by the regular engine, while the rear is powered by an electric motor. Just on the electric engine alone the vehicle is capable of covering a distance of about 37 kms.
The BMW i8 Protonic Red Edition comes loaded with interesting set of features like exclusive carbon-fibre and ceramic trims that blend smartly with red double-stitching. The vehicle’s interior is based on LifeDrive architecture that has been specially designed by the company for its electric cars and eDrive system. The vehicle indeed commands attention from car fanatics owing to smart upholstery and sporty exterior shade.
