Speaking at the interim conference, Harald Krüger, chairman of the board of management of BMW AG, promised a “very exciting surprise” for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Apart from the vague statement, no details about the new product (or strategy) were divulged by the Bavarian carmaker.
The forthcoming German auto show is an important stage for BMW. Firstly, it is the home turf for the Munich-based carmaker. Secondly, BMW has already announced an onslaught of 40 new products in the span of next two years. This would include a host of electric vehicles – like the i8 Roadster, electric Mini and all-electric X3 – apart from performance vehicles like the new gen M5 and the all-new 8 Series along with its M8 performance version.
In the SUV department, the new X2 and X7 are to break cover as well. The current generation 3 Series is due for an update and has been spotted testing.BMW is also working on the fourth i product, speculated to be called the i5, which will be an all-electric family car.
These are the speculated products which BMW could surprise us with at the Frankfurt stage. However, speaking of the new strategies, BMW had also announced in their previous interim report about developing an all-new iNEXT vertical for production ofthe new age vehicles with autonomous and electric technology.Reportedly, this iNEXT won’t come along before 2021 so the ‘surprise’ that Krüger was referring to maybe related to the iNEXT vertical.
Whatever the surprise may be, it will be revealed only at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show which opens its gates on 9 September. CarWale will be there as well. Stay tuned.
