BMW has announced its major model offensive for 2018 at its annual press conference. The major focus is, of course, on SUVs but the other product line-ups in the German automaker’s arsenal will also be expanded this year. Most of these cars are India-bound over the course of 2018 and 2019 and in the case of the X7 and X3 will assembled locally.
BMW X7
This is the new flagship SUV. It will be the production version of the X7 SUV concept that was showcased last year. It will be a proper rival to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. This car is expected to make a European debut followed by a launch in China and then USA with an India launch scheduled for sometime in mid- 2019.
2018 BMW X3
This car was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi and will be launched in India later this year. It’s the third generation for the automaker’s mid-size SUV and is underpinned by a completely new platform. For the Indian market, we can expect a range of petrol and diesel engines on offer.
BMW X4 and X2
These are the additions to the coupe SUV range that BMW pioneered with the X6 in 2009. The X4 has received a generational change and is positioned alongside the 4 Series while the X2 is completely new and will enter production for the first time this year.
BMW i8 Roadster
An open top version of the i8, the roadster was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo and will be offered in India in limited numbers later this year. It’s the third addition to the i-family and has already entered production.
BMW Z4
Co-developed with Toyota, the Z4 revives BMW’s famous sportscar moniker but this time around, it’s in collaboration with the Japanese. Both models are expected to share engine and underpinnings, but will have all the signature traits of their parent companies.
