The rivalry between the German automotive trio of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz has entered the world wide web. According to Google, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have topped the list of most searched luxury car brands in India followed by Tata-owned Jaguar and Audi. This data was recorded between January and August 25, 2014.
Consumers from smaller cities and towns like Coimbatore, Ludhiana, Surat and Pune are influencing this list to a good extent. With the luxury carmakers setting up shop in some small towns, the accessibility of these luxury cars has increased.
"With growing section of rich Indians especially from the young generagtion being targeted by luxury car companies, Internet is playing small yet considerate role in decision-making process," Google said in a statement.
BMW, which topped the list, saw a downfall in May, meanwhile Mercedes-Benz has emerged as the most searched luxury brand and has been at the top since a couple of months.
Ernakulum, Ludhiana, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram and Vadodara contributed the maximum number of searches for Mercedes-Benz, beating metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon and Bangalore.
Not too long ago we saw luxury car sales limited to metro cities, this new trend of manufacturers venturing out to tier 2 cities has certainly reaped rich dividends. Although, Audi is at the bottom of the list, it might climb up the ladder as its recently launched A3 has left everyone shocked with its price. However, Mercedes-Benz will soon launch the GLA-Class, giving it another reason to be searched for. BMW will launch the X3 this week, although the chances are bleak, but we might see the M4 this year. It is a battle these three have carried for long and we don’t see a reason why it shouldn’t excite us and the buyers.
