There is nothing new about BMW and Toyota working on a joint sports car platform. The first car through this alliance is expected in 2017 and will wear the Japanese and German badges. But, have you heard about BMW and Lexus working on an a new LFA? Yes, that’s what rumours say now.
This new sportscar could be different from the joint platform developed by Toyota and BMW and might be even called the LFA. The new sportscar might feature a powerful petrol engine and an electric motor which could be borrowed from the BMW i8.
These are still early days and there is no official word on this from either of the manufacturers. But the car might be more powerful than the LFA which had a 4.8-litre V10 engine pumping out 552bhp and 480Nm of torque. The LFA achieved the 0-100 kmph acceleration test in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 325 kmph. These figures might be bettered with the new car allegedly being more powerful than the LFA.
Although, we expect the Toyota and BMW joint sportscar to be sold in India; there is limited chance that this one might make it here. The LFA only made it to 500 owners and it is a possibility that Lexus might make only limited copies of the new LFA as well.
