Now in its final stages of the development process, the new BMW 8 Series Coupe is currently being tested in Wales. According to BMW, all the drivetrain and suspension components, especially of the M850i xDrive Coupe are undergoing tests.
This particular version features a completely redeveloped V8 engine, four-wheel drive, an active rear axle differential lock, the adaptive M suspension and lots more. BMW claims a low centre of gravity for the M850i. The car will also get active steering and roll stability to improve cornering feel and agility.
As for the reworked V8 motor, it will weigh the same as the old unit but produce more power and torque. The engine, in fact, makes 68bhp more, at 530bhp. Maximum torque has been increased by 100Nm to 750Nm and is available at 1,800rpm. Paired to it will be an eight-speed Steptronic sport transmission.
The 8 Series Coupe will go on sale during the course of 2018. The digit 8 in the model designation refers to the new model’s position within BMW’s product range. As was once the case with the Z8 and currently the i8, the new M850i will be a unique proposition in BMW’s line-up.
