> 1,600 cars roll off the Dingolfing plant’s production bay each day
> The 8 Series is crafted on the same assembly line as the 5 Series and 7 Series
> Comes just four months after the 8 Series Coupe was put into production at the same venue
BMW has begun production of the 8 Series Convertible at its Dingolfing plant in Germany (where the 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 Series is also produced).
There will be two engine choices on offer when the new BMW 8 Series Convertible goes on sale in March 2019. The M850i xDrive Convertible will be powered by a petrol 4.4-litre V8 engine with 530bhp and 750Nm of torque, and the 840d xDrive Convertible will use a diesel 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder powertrain with 320bhp/680Nm. Both engines will transmit power to the wheels through an 8-speed Steptronic sport gearbox and BMW’s xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system.
The 8 Series Convertible is equipped with a newly developed multi-layered textile soft top that’s received a weight-minimising design with superb acoustic insulation. It takes just 15 seconds to open and shut the soft-top roof. Besides that, one has to admit that the roof design adds a classical soft-top charm to the overall appearance. What’s more, there are two soft top colours to choose from – the standard black soft-top or the optional Anthracite Silver effect version.
We will have more news on the BMW 8 Series Convertible in the time to come, so stay tuned to CarWale for the details.
