An automotive publication has interviewed BMW’s chairman Dr.Norbert Reithofer on the upcoming 2016 BMW 7 Series. Without revealing too many details he gave out a few pointers about the upcoming luxury limo.
The standards are set high (the new Mercedes S-Class), but the 7 Series will surpass those and exceed the competition in some areas. The car will set a benchmark in terms of weight saving, with usage of aluminium, he said.
Talking about the design, he added, “Customers like the design of overall design of the 7 Series and it won’t get a major overhaul looks wise.”
The regular variants of the new 7 Series will be powered by six and eight cylinder petrol and diesel engines. BMW will also offer a range-topping 7 Series with its flagship V12 engine, and this is expected to continue in the new generation model.
The 7 Series will compete with the Mercedes S-Class, Audi A8 and the Jaguar XJL everywhere. In India, it will be launched within six months from its global launch. The car will be brought through the CBU route initially and with Mercedes starting off with local assembly for the S-Class, BMW might be looking at this option too.
